Teambuilding - The Way

The aim of this event is to get the whole team working together to complete one essential project which is a route-way linking the efficient supply and transport of manufacturing output. Teams are challenged with building the ultimate sustainable highway. There are numerous variations, typical to real life, which teams must work with in order for their project to succeed and their business to survive.

The Dynamics

The game is based on teams striving for success while having to be aware of the impact their decisions have on those around them. Working in small groups the activity involves the construction of a freestanding route-way capable of transporting a “goods” from one end to the other.

Each group constructs one of the sections remotely from the others. They may communicate with the other groups within certain constraints to ensure that that the sections are compatible with each other. The sections once completed are joined together and the route-way is tested!
Often; the teams start off in a competitive, “we know better”, mind-set which may have a negative impact on the whole group objective … it can be a costly mistake, though! Teams have to unite and reverse the damage. The trick is for teams to recognise the need to work together by collaborating; rather than adopting a gung-ho approach and inviting impact.

The focus of activities and thought-process is to help the participants to realise that, even within their own teams, they can be instrumental in creating and contribute to “the group community” in the broadest sense.
Each part of The Way is a means to an end. The ingenious nature of the experience means teams can experiment with ideas, and see if they have practical use. Indeed; one team could even be responsible for R and D of some of the ideas – so that the project is not compromised by experiments. Changes and additions can be made at any time. This gives great flexibility and freedom to be inventive.

The key to The Way is involvement. Each person plays a key role in building it and the activities are deliberately designed to appeal to different skill-sets to broaden the spectrum of participant
engagement. In team building the whole is always greater than the sum of the parts.
